Personal History:

Canonly, not much is stated about Ilia’s life before the events of the game. She was born on earth around 323S.D. (Space Date) which equates to about 2410A.D. In all likelihood she had a relatively normal childhood and youth. She devoted herself to her studies and excelled in school, especially in the field of science. She advanced quicker than the average student, gaining a Ph.D at a fairly early age. Pursuing science as a career, Ilia wanted to go where new discoveries in her field were sure to appear. In order to do that the only place to go was up, to space.

She joined the military, which guaranteed she would be at the forefront of all leading scientific advances. She applied herself and rose through the ranks, once again at an accelerated rate. She gained the position of second-in-command and lead scientist aboard the starship Calnus though she was still in her early twenties. While in training she fell in love with space as well as developed truly romantic feelings for her immediate superior, Captain Ronyx J. Kenny. Although Ronyx became aware of Ilia’s feelings as they worked together she was careful never to push the subject.

It was 346S.D. when Ilia’s story really begins. On the underdeveloped planet of Roak, where there lives many people with varying similarities to animals, a strange virus had begun to spread. Anyone affected by the virus only had a short time left before they petrified into stone. The victims would remain living statues. Although there wasn’t much known about the virus, it was suspected it was actually a biological weapon launched by an alien race known as the Lezonians, but why they would attack planet Roak was anyone’s guess.

Ronyx and Ilia, sent by the Terran Alliance under the order of Admiral Bays, traveled to the planet and beamed down to investigate the virus. They expected to be alone when they landed at the summit of Mt. Metorx but they happened to land just as three Roakians climbed to the top. The three were Fellpool, Roakians with cat tails and pointy ears—Roddick Farrence, Millie Chliette and Dorne Murtough.

After reassuring the three that they were not gods, Ilia and Ronyx explain that the disease wasn’t something that could be cured by mountain herbs. They offered to take the three aboard their ship so they could analyze the disease that had infected Dorne. However, under the terms of the Underdeveloped Planet Preservation Pact if the teens left with them they might never be able to return home. Either way, their planet was doomed so they agreed to go.

Aboard the Calnus, Dorne was taken immediately to sick bay for analysis. Ilia, though reluctant to break the Preservation Pact even further, gave Roddick and Millie a tour of their ship at Ronyx’s insistence, amazing the Fellpool with all the modern conveniences. Alarms began to sound during their tour and a demon beast, a giant bug-like monster called a Fellworm appeared, probably having hatched after its egg latched onto Roddick or Millie. They defeated the monster but Ilia surprised them by saying it had disappeared once their blood touched it. The Fellpool could see its corpse just fine.

At that time, Ronyx called them all back to sick bay to hear the doctor’s conclusion. It seemed the virus was much too advanced for the doctor to do anything about it. The strain mutated at an accelerated rate. Any vaccine they could make would quickly become useless. However, the doctor hypothesized that if he could get a sample of the original host’s blood he could then make a serum that would reverse the virus’ effects.

Ilia began to wonder at that time why Lezonia would go to such extremes to hurt the Roakians. She thought it might have something to do with their special blood and its power to make matter invisible to all but Roakian eyes. It begged the question whether Lezonia was somehow planning to make a weapon of sorts with the Roakians, so Ronyx looked into whether the bodies had been taken while the doctor looked into any possible offensive properties that could be taken from the blood. By the time the planet had been scanned 200,000 bodies had already been removed from Roak without them noticing.

Ronyx put in an order to return to Earth but before they left Dorne’s condition worsened. He asked to be returned to his bed—he wanted to die at home in case a cure could not be found. Ronyx granted his request and Ilia accompanied the Roakians back home for one last send off. When Dorne succumbed to the transformation, Roddick, Millie and Ilia returned to the Calnus and began the trek back to Earth.

They had almost reached Terran Alliance HQ when Roddick and Millie spotted a ship heading straight for them. None of the humans nor their sensors picked up on the mysterious spacecraft until it was practically upon them. It was a Lezonian ship but they were asking to make an armistice with the humans, not wanting to cause trouble. Talks were had between Ronyx, Admiral Bays and the Lezonian emissaries. It appeared that a third party, mostly unknown until then, had been controlling Lezonia. The Lezonians didn’t have much that could be explained about the third party, but they did know their technology was highly advanced. In fact, the destruction of planet Ise which had remained unexplained was now revealed to have been the victim of the third party’s incredible might.

The Lezonians apologized for their part in the disaster at Roak but even they hadn’t much information on the virus, let alone a cure. However, they did know the original host carrier of the pathogen was from Roak—a monster called Asmodeus. Unfortunately, Asmodeus had been slain over 300 years ago in the Demonic Wars of Roak, and it seemed impossible to gather a sample of his blood from which to make a serum. Admiral Bays, with no other options left, ordered for the planet of Roak to be quarantined.

Disheartened, the captain, Ilia, Roddick and Millie found themselves at a loss. But then Ronyx had a brilliant idea—why not use the Time Gate on the planet Styx to go back in time and retrieve the sample they needed? It was a risky move since the Time Gate was still very much a mystery and there was no guarantee they could come back if they messed up. However, it was their only chance. Ilia reminded the captain when they approached the planet that their livelihoods could be compromised if they were ever found out, but she resolved to go with him no matter what the cost.

Ronyx managed to talk the guardian of the Time Gate to let them through but certain conditions had to be met. They had to leave their technology and weapons behind them or else the gate would not accept them. Ronyx and Millie made it through the gate first, but Ilia tripped. Roddick helped her up but that second of hesitation was enough to throw off their point of arrival.

Upon landing on Roak, now 300 years in the past, Ronyx and Millie were nowhere to be found. Ilia and Roddick had appeared just on the outskirts of a small hamlet called Kraat. Before starting their search for their friends, Roddick picked up some more primitive clothes for Ilia so she wouldn’t look so alien at first glance. The clothes he chose were too small though, so she just wore them over her uniform.

The pair traveled to the next town, a placed called Haute, and continued to ask around for anyone who looked like Ronyx or Millie. They had no luck finding their friends but did find help in a muscular Highlander named Cyuss. He agreed to travel with them on their quest to find their friends.

At the next town of Portmith they hit a rut. A group called the Velkhent pirates was raiding boats, making passage to the next continent of Astral impossible. The team decided to take care of the pirates themselves and once that was done they made for Astral. They continued to ask after their friends as they continued from town to town but still they could not find Ronyx or Millie.

At one point they stopped in the capital of Astral and met a young woman who seemed to know Cyuss. The girl’s name was Phia Melle, a captain of the Astral Kingdom guard. During their stay, Phia was accused of attacking Lord Lias, a man known for his bravery in the Demonic Wars years ago. However, it turned out the person who attacked him was actually an assassin from the demon world and the party, along with Phia, killed the monster. Phia was released of all charges and Lord Lias was on the way to recovery.

The party was then told of a place called the Purgatorium where there was said to be an object called the Eye of Truth. Legend said the Eye would let whomever gazed upon it see the location of anything they desired. The party turned down the offer however, and continued to look for their friends by searching the towns rather than relying on myth. Ilia questioned Cyuss about Phia before they left, but he didn’t seem to understand why she seemed concerned about their relationship.

Before they could travel to the next continent of Van, a bright light shot through the sky and something smashed into the Muah continent. Roddick said it was probably the Celestial Ship, a strange spaceship that had long since become overgrown in his time. They traveled quickly by boat back to the first continent to check out the ship, and it was what Roddick had predicted. Ilia felt uneasy about the ship. While it wasn’t from Earth or Lezonia, it did very much resemble an Earth vessel.

Ilia, Roddick and Cyuss then continued on their way to the town of Eckdart in Van kingdom where they ran into Millie. She said the captain and a woman named Mavelle had probably gone on to the town of Ionis. Ilia immediately became on edge hearing that the captain was with a woman and urged them to hurry on to the next town. At Ionis Mavelle was challenging a man called the Crimson Shield but he put down her attack quickly and left. Ilia tried to hide her displeasure at seeing Ronyx with an attractive woman like Mavelle but her anger was obvious. Perhaps to appease her, Ronyx held their meeting that night in a bar. But instead of getting anything accomplished, Ilia, Cyuss, Millie and Roddick just drank and ate until they passed out.

When everyone else slept, Ronyx went outside with Mavelle and had a little talk. She explained her painful situation to him and then left, saying she would rather be on her own. When the morning came, Millie was upset to know Mavelle had left but they couldn’t go after her now. The party still had much to do, so they continued on their way to the Van Kingdom capital.

At the capital, the king of Van gave them audience once he heard they were seeking to kill the Archfiend Asmodeus. He wanted them to prove their strength first, so he sent them to the Trial Chamber. After solving the puzzles and defeating the monster within, the party emerged and were given the emblem of the Van Kingdom. The king sent them out to visit the other kingdoms and win their knowledge as well as take their own emblems to show they had completed their tasks.

Before they left, Ronyx and Ilia had a talk. Ilia expressed an interest in finding out the scientific reasoning behind Heraldry, the magical power used on Roak. The captain admitted he could see why she wanted to see things in a scientific light, as the power of Heraldry seemed too good to be true. Ronyx also revealed how he still regretted being so helpless when his wife was dying of an untreatable illness and wondered if perhaps the mysterious Heraldry could have possible saved her. Ilia walked away knowing it was that darkness in his heart that made it difficult for him to accept her feelings.

Along the way to accomplish their task the party grew in numbers adding Phia Melle, the knight captain from Astral, T’nique Aracana, a lycanthrope martial artist, and Welch Vineyard, a mysterious young inventor. The party recovered all the emblems from as far north as wintery Silvalant to the Muah Kingdom in the south. They also learned many things about a people called the Old Race, also known as the Muah. They were said to be a highly advanced people who appeared on Roak as full grown adults. It seemed the Muah created something called the Eye of Truth and with it they accidentally opened a door to the Demon World, flooding Roak with monsters. Returning to the Van Kingdom, Ilia and her friends were told to go to the Purgatorium, the same place mentioned in the legends they had been told of in the Astral Kingdom.

After finding the Purgatorium’s real entrance high in the mountain of Astral, the party moved deep inside until they reached a room filled with an odd chamber. It was obviously not something that should have been present on Roak. Then the three goddess known as the Runes appeared. When they were shown the emblems of all the kingdoms they led the party into the Inner Sanctum of the Purgatorium, telling them they would find the Eye of Truth hidden deep inside.

Upon reaching the deepest point in the sanctum, a holograph of Earth appeared showing the lost continent of Mu. A holograph of a man also appeared and talked about the horrible mistake the Muah had made when they created the Eye of Truth. They just wanted to go home to Earth. After the man disappeared, the Eye was taken into possession of the party. Ilia realized then that the Old Race actually was from Earth originally, having come from the lost continent of Mu that disappeared possibly into a vortex centuries ago. When the Muah discovered their plan to return had failed, they left clues with all the kings of the land in hope that someone would be able to put an end to their mistake. Although her idea still seemed farfetched, it was the only theory that made sense.

They returned to the Van Kingdom to report on their success. However, a strange women appeared before them and revealed herself to be a demon spy. She said that Asmodeus had finished his weapon and they were too late to stop him. Just a moment later, a loud noise was heard and a report came that the town of Durss, a small mountain village in Silvalant, had been completely destroyed with no hope of survivors. Disgusted by the evil they saw, the party returned to Silvalant and took a boat to the small, deserted island where the Demon Gate was said to open. There, they used the Eye of Truth and before them a portal of pitch black opened up. Mustering their courage, everyone jumped through and Ilia was surrounded by darkness.

Time Taken from in Canon:

I’m taking Ilia from the moment she entered the Gate to the Demon World. At this point it isn’t guaranteed they can defeat Asmodeus or save the Roakians from the petrifaction virus. With this in mind, Ilia will have a greater sense of urgency. She’ll want to escape the institute as quickly as possible. The lives of hundreds of thousands of Roakians are at stake and she’s not going to sit around and do nothing until the institute lets her free.

The party members I’ve given her will also greatly affect her relationships with the other canonmates she may meet in Landel’s. Not only will she not recognize teammates she never encountered, she could also potentially have different memories than her fellow party members.

The optional party members (along with the required Ronyx, Roddick and Millie) I have chosen for her are Cyuss Warren, Phia Melle, T’nique Arcana and Welch Vineyard. The choice of Welch (and also potentially T’nique) will put a strain on any relationship she holds with Ronyx.
